The local motocross and scrambling area near us often has bits of bike lying around it. But last week Gerald was whizzing around it on his 50cc Peugeot Speedfight when the front wheel hit an obstacle. He flew over the handlebars, and once he had recovered he determined to find out what it was he had hit.

It looked like the rearwheel of a Kawasaki. Indeed, when Gerald began today, it became apparent that it was indeed a motorbike of some description.

Gerald was not aware that Kawasaki’s had built 50cc mopeds and scooters in the past, but at the end of a three hour digging session, during which many of his colleagues had joined in, it was indeed a 50cc Kawasaki that was uncovered.

Everything was complete except for the fittings around the front wheel. And Gerald has made it his ambition to restore this bike to its former glory.

Nobody at our club has any idea how it could have got into that position. The current favourite is that it is an insurance write-off. But even then this seems a very strange place to bury a moped.
